Williamsburg South Community
A new urban development located at Bleams Rd and Fischer-Hallman Rd in south west Kitchener, consisting of 
mixed use commercial, residential, greenspace and institutional areas, and offering a variety of residential housing options enabling "aging in place" within the community. 
 Guiding Principles

  • Encourage opportunities for meaningful social, cultural and commercial interaction within and beyond the Williamsburg South neighbourhood

  • Provide for balanced and complementary modes of transportation including the car, public transit, cycling and walking (with a  strong emphasis on enhancing the latter three modes)

  • Accommodate a mixture of land uses that effectively, efficiently and functionally integrates commercial, residential,greenspace and institutional uses

  • Adopt a lifespan perspective and plan for social diversity through a full range of housing options, enabling "aging in place" within the neighbourhood

  • Build a "social infrastructure" to directly serve the neighbourhood's social needs

  • Maintain and human scale in building and streetscape design and provide for diversity of architectural expression

  • Establish a coherent, connected street pattern to provide a framework for clear location within the neighbourhood

  • Celebrate and preserve natural heritage features and cultural heritage features to every extent possible within the overall neighbourhood design, recognizing the benefits of incorporating fitness, trails and natural areas in promoting nature and health within the neighbourhood

  • Phase the overall development in a manner that demonstrates reasonable coherence and integrity at each stage of completeness

  • Prepared by GSP Group Inc and Bousfields Inc (March 2009) 

  • Submitted together with Draft Plan of Subdivison applications and supporting information

  • Organized the structual components of the "Williamsburg South Community" (or "Trussler Northeast Community") at a high level

  • Intended to provide overall direction as to how the various properites fit together in terms of land use patterns, street patterns, servicing, stormwater management, natural heritage system, and greenspace
